Instead, D-mannose is excreted in the urine. On its way through the bladder, D-mannose binds to those bacteria that cause urinary tract infections and bladder infections. Compared to glucose, D-mannose is absorbed very slowly, about eight times slower than glucose. Only a small portion of D-mannose is metabolized. The majority of the mannose is excreted unchanged in the urine. And this is precisely the great advantage of D-mannose. The D-mannose now flows with the blood straight to the kidney and from there to the bladder. D-Mannose works as well as antibiotics, brings no side effects and can even be used preventively to prevent cystitis from coming back in the first place.
